A Race too Far
November 14, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
By Chris Eakin
Former BBC News presenter Chris Eakin talks about the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race of 1968-69 – the attempt to be the first person to sail around the world single-handed. It is what made Sir Robin Knox-Johnston famous, and Donald Crowhurst infamous.
In his book ‘A Race Too Far’, Chris chronicles the full drama, chaos and tragedy of a race which had almost no rules. And by interviewing everyone decades later, he tells the untold story of what happened next – the personal disasters and the joys.
The talk is illustrated with black and white photographs unearthed by Chris deep in the archives of the Sunday Times.
