DAVID RAMSHAW ; The Carlisle Canal

In 1821 the Carlisle Canal was opened with great pomp and ceremony only to close in 1853 on the coming of the railways which gave much faster links from Port Carlisle to the canal basin near The West Cumberland Hospital in Carlisle.  David Ramshaw will give a detailed account of the building and operation as well as the demise  of the canal along with historic paintings and newspaper accounts of the day.
