Between the 1950s and the 1970s, about 10,000 miles of Britain’s railway network was lost, along with over 2000 stations, and during this period the steam age came to an end, along with the life it represented.<\/p>\n
This talk looks at the legacy of those lost railways, via old photographs, postcards and ephemera and modern images of what remains to be seen and explored in the landscape. The talk is about more than trains, it is about a way of life that was largely lost with the closure of nearly half of the railway network, particularly in the small towns and villages that used to depend upon the railway.
