The Mackenzie River : Nigel Rowe

Nigel Rowe was leader of the British Mackenzie River Expedition, a 2000km canoeing descent of the world’s tenth-longest river across Arctic Canada, commencing from the Great Slave Lake and finishing at the remote settlement of Tuktoyaktuk in the Beaufort Sea. Six Metropolitan Police Officers on an old-fashioned adventure with paper maps and fishing rods, they battled through storms, canyons and fast water, surviving bear attacks and a relentless plague of mosquitoes. Canoeing across the Arctic Circle, they entered the myriad of channels that form the Mackenzie Delta, a damp, inhospitable, bug-ridden lagoon, before entering the Arctic Ocean to Tuktoyaktuk. This is an entertaining talk with colourful pictures of an Arctic landscape.
