The Spirit of Hadrian’s Wall

2022 marks the 1900th anniversary of Emperor Hadrian’s only known visit to inspect the early surveying and construction of his remarkable frontier in AD122 – in Roman numerals MCM. 2023 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of Mark’s first Cicerone guide to Hadrian’s Wall. He called it The Wall Walk as this was a full decade before the National Trail was inaugurated. Mark gives a personal perspective on the span of the frontier, for him as many others, enthralling and compelling. He will share his pleasure in discovering new things, and glory in the wider historic setting.
