Turnpikes and Maps

Paul is a historical geographer and retired Salford University geography lecturer with a wide interest in old maps, roads and tracks and the Lake District. The talk is about the changing pattern of roads, and turnpikes in particular, into and around Keswick, illustrated by mapping from Donald’s 1774 map of Cumberland through to modern-day Ordnance Survey. It will also link in with tourism, milestones and toll gates!
